Friday marks the full COVID-19 vaccination of 25,000 community members through Augusta Health Vaccination Clinics. That was the second of two significant COVID-19 vaccination milestones this week. On Tuesday,, Augusta Health celebrated the administration of 50,000 doses of vaccine. The total fully vaccinated represents just over 20 percent of the population of Augusta County, Staunton and Waynesboro, which is estimated at just over 123,000 people.

The health district says the decision to move to Phase 2 was made based on current demand and increasing supply of COVID-19 vaccine. Everyone interested in receiving a vaccination should pre-register or update their pre-registration records at www.vaccinate.virginia.gov or by calling 1-877-VAX-IN-VA. Currently, they are not accepting walk-in appointments for COVID-19 vaccine clinics.

This week, Virginia received close to 124K doses of the J&J vaccine; similarly a large amount via the federal pharmacy program at about 150K doses. It was that that allowed us to confidently move to Phase 2 by April 18, said Avula. Most health districts will be moving to the Phase 2 general population by the end of this week or the following, he said.

(WHSV) The Central Shenandoah Health District (CSHD) announced vaccination efforts will expand into Phase 2 on Friday, April 9. On Friday, all individuals age 16 and over in the health district will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
