HOWARD COUNTY BECOMES MISSOURI S 86TH CERTIFIED WORK READY COMMUNITY | KMMO

Howard County, Missouri, recently achieved ACT Certified Work Ready Community Status. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson spoke at the event celebrating the certification, Tuesday, at Central Methodist University. The Work Ready Community initiative empowers counties throughout the United States to identify skill gaps and quantify the skill level of its workforce. This helps educators build career pathways aligned with the needs of business and industry. In order to be considered for the designation, communities must obtain the support from a determined number of businesses in the community and the workforce must earn a certain number of ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificates.

Heart Laurels Earned by Trio Oskaloosa–Three Statesmen softball players received their first career league hardware as the all-Heart of America Athletic Conference awards were announced Thursday. Third baseman Valeria Quiroga (Fr., San Benito, Texas, Sociology) was one of 20 players named to the first team, while first baseman Lexi Riccardi (Sr., Redwood City, Calif., Biology) garnered second-team recognition (20 players on the second team). Catcher Lexi Resa (Jr., Liberty, Mo., Biology) was part of the 20-person honorable-mention list as well. The awards are the first for all three players. The trio helped William Penn to a 20-30 campaign, including a 13-22 Heart record. WPU finished in the top six in the league tournament, highlighted by upsetting top seed Grand View in the first round.

Helston Flora Day tune as town celebrates cancelled event

Flora Day may have been cancelled but that hasn t stopped Helstonians celebrating the day in whatever way they can. Whilst making sure to still following all the government rules of social distancing, small groups of spaced out families stood on the pavement outside the Guildhall at 7am to watch the clock strike the hour and what would normally herald the start of the dancing. People in town to see the Guildhall clock strike 7am. Picture: Kathy White Those waiting for the tune were not left disappointed, as three members of Helston Town Band, Ben, Ann and David, stood further up the town outside M&Co in Meneage Street to play the tune.
