A woman who was a passenger in a speeding stolen pickup truck was killed when the driver lost control and hit a guardrail early Thursday on Waiehu Beach Road, police said.
She was identified as Jamescy Akahi, 37, of Wailuku.
The driver, identified as Holden Bingham, 30, who has no local address, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, driving without a license, reckless driving and excessive speeding of 81 mph or more, police said.

Hawai island Sen. Dru Kanuha has been named the new Senate majority leader after former Maui Sen. J. Kalani English retired on Saturday, the Senate announced.
Days after the state Legislature adjourned, the Senate outlined its new leadership and committees, with Sen. Ron Kouchi remaining Senate president and Sen. Michelle Kidani serving as vice president.
Sen. Gil Keith-Agaran, who represents Central Maui, will serve as assistant majority whip along with Sens. Brian Taniguchi and Clarence Nishihara.
Keith-Agaran will retain his roles as vice chair of the Ways and Means Committee and vice chair of the Water and Land Committee. He will also serve on the Higher Education Committee.
Mahi Pono and paraquat: The 2020 sequel
The use of the paraquat-containing herbicide Gramoxone on Maui should drop dramatically in 2021, thanks to Mahi Pono’s decision last year to stop spraying it on weeds. However, prior to its halt, Maui’s largest landowner sprayed some 240 gallons of Gramoxone eight times on 974 acres of its 1,195-acre field at the intersection of the heavily-used Haleakala and Hana Highways from January to May, 2020. It sprayed an additional 21 gallons on 185 acres around Hawaiian Cement close to North Kihei on June 8, 2020.
The information is contained in the Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s [HDOA] annual Restricted Use Pesticides [RUP] report mandated by a 2018 law–that details the use of agricultural chemicals not available for public use.
