Central Highlands Regional Council announced water works would be carried out on Monday, May 10, causing water supply interruptions to parts of the town. For the ongoing hydrant and valves replacement works, there will be some short test shutdowns happening in Blackwater. During renewal process, water supply will be turned off for up to 2.5 hours between 9am and noon, which would affect Bendee Crescent, Mangrove Street, Casuarina Street, Boronia Street, Eucalyptus Street and possibly surrounding streets. Council advised that some residents may experience slight discolouration of the water.

The Capella community submitted a petition with its preferred operating hours to Central Highlands Regional Council in April, prompting council to review its options. Manager Planning and Environment Kirstin Byrne said recruiting extra positions was a short-term solution while council’s long-term waste strategy was developed. “After the introduction of the Queensland Waste Levy on 1 July 2019, council was required to put in place waste disposal controls across all our waste facilities,” she said. “To assist us in fulfilling our monitoring and reporting obligations under the state levy, 24/7 access was no longer an option so manned opening hours had to be brought in and CCTV cameras installed.

Anzac spirit: CQ leaders blown away at support for 2021 ceremony

Premium Content Subscriber only Following a year where community members were confined to their driveways for Anzac Day, was an “incredible” show of Australian spirit as the Emerald community gathered in the centre of town. Thousands made their way to the Emerald Cenotaph on Sunday morning to watch and take part in the 2021 Anzac Day March from Lions Park to the cenotaph, followed by the main service. Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said the ceremony was “extremely well attended”, despite initial concerns that people would remain at home following last years inability to meet at the cenotaph.
