A powerful Pacific island fisheries bloc opened a multi-million dollar, four-story headquarters in Majuro, capital of the Marshall Islands.
The Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA), which controls waters where half of the world s skipjack tuna is caught, held a soft opening for the recently completed headquarters building.
Since it was first established in Majuro in 2010, the organization has been responsible for a nearly 10-fold increase in revenue generated for nine island governments through a management scheme known as the vessel day scheme that regulates purse seine fishing in the region.

Amplifying the voices of young Pacific people and addressing their questions and concerns is at the heart of the Teen Tuna Tok campaign, launched this week to mark World Tuna Day (Sunday 2nd May 2021).
The social media campaign, a joint initiative from the Pacific’s lead agencies working with Tuna, has received entries from teens from across the Pacific from Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, the Federated States of Micronesia to the Marshall Islands and Tonga.

New images reveal a large patch of sediment rising to the surface of the water after equipment tests carried out by mining company Global Sea Mineral Resources (GSR ), which is aiming to commercially extract minerals from the seabed in the future.
