The new Tier 4 rules for London and the South East mean people must stay at home. You are only able to meet with one other person from another household in a public, outdoor space. People can go outdoors for unlimited exercise.
What about Christmas? Boris Johnson has now cancelled Christmas plans in Tier 4 areas like South Essex which means the five-day Christmas bubble for three households is now not allowed. People in Tier 4 should not mix with anyone outside their own household on Christmas Day, except support and childcare bubbles. In Tier 1, 2 and 3 areas – like Colchester and Tendring, the Christmas bubble period has now been reduced to just Christmas Day.

Research by Prof Marc Cowling and Prof Ross Brown analyses the economic impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on Stevenage.

New research published by leading business academics predicts more than 250 Stevenage businesses going bust due to the coronavirus lockdown, with an estimated 2,372 workers affected.
The findings were published by Professor Marc Cowling, of the University of Derby s College of Business, Law and Social Sciences, and Professor Ross Brown of St Andrews, who were studying the financial implications of the COVID-19 lockdown on the 100 largest cities and towns in the United Kingdom.
Their work, which ranks the percentage of job losses in a town or city s total workforce, indicates 268 businesses in Stevenage are at immediate risk of failing as they could go bust.

The total number of cases in the district now stands at 5,011 (+155).
The case rate in Central Beds is now 259.8 per 100,000.
Elsewhere in the county, Luton has 7,556 (+185) cases while Bedford s figure is at 4,188 (+90).
Coronavirus
There have been 1,948,660 lab-confirmed cases across the UK, up by a daily rise of 35,383.
66,052 deaths within 28 days of a positive test have been recorded, up by 532 today.
Today, the government confirmed Bedfordshire will enter Tier 3 restrictions from Saturday, December 19.
Once the Tier 3 restrictions apply, residents must:
> Not mix with other households indoors;
> Only meet people outdoors in open public spaces in groups of up to six;
Hertfordshire is set to move into a different tier system following climbing COVID-19 rates.

A new very high alert coronavirus tier has been announced for Stevenage, North Herts and Central Bedfordshire, after neighbouring districts in Hertfordshire were moved into Tier 3 on Wednesday.
Matt Hancock has announced our area will be in Tier 3 from 00.01am on Saturday, December 19, alongside the rest of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
The news comes as coronavirus case rates have soared in recent weeks.
On Wednesday, December 16, Stevenage had 23 positive COVID-19 tests in one day according to the Government.
The rate over the last seven days, on December 11, has been 170.9 per 100,000.
