A recent report from North Carolina s Department of Transportation says its airports contribute over $60 billion and over 370,000 jobs to the local economy. Mount Airy Surry County Airport ranked No. 2 for non-commercial, general aviation airports in North Carolina because of its economic output of more than $690 million, state and local tax revenue of more than $22 million, and personal income of more than $129 million. It falls behind only Winston-Salem s Smith Reynolds Airport.

Operations are strict at the UNC Friday Medical Center as those who are 65 and older are now getting the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Governor Roy Cooper toured the facility on Tuesday, as the Medical Center prepares to allow more people in the building to continue giving the vaccine. But not all counties are doing as well. We know that it s been easy in a lot of communities, and in some communities, it s been very difficult for people. Once we did open up the 65 to 75, a lot of people called in and wanted to get appointments, Cooper said.
