While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has an opportunity to prohibit menthol cigarettes and take a step toward mitigating the harms of flavored tobacco products in our communities, Delaware can do more, and it should start with introducing and passing legislation to end the sale of flavored tobacco products. Joseph Lawson Joseph Lawson On March 7, a one-of-a-kind event took place in Delaware.  A youth-led group, supported by local adults, marched across the Indian River bridge in a nonpartisan event to honor and commemorate the life and work of civil rights pioneer John Lewis.  Even more amazing is that these young people both came up with this idea and worked to take it from what might have seemed an impossible fantasy to a reality. March 7 was the 66th anniversary of the John Lewis-led march of the Selma bridge, aka Bloody Sunday.  That march is credited as leading to the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which prohibits discrimination from voting on the basis of race.  By doing so, it changed America. Or so was the hope. The fact is that voting was then and continues to be one of the most controversial and divisive issues in America.

Delaware Business Now Reading Time: 2 minutes Do More 24 Delaware raised nearly $2 million in the 24 hours between 6 p.m. March 4 and 6 p.m. March 5, shattering last year’s grand total and pumping in more than 10,000 donations to nearly 400 nonprofits statewide. By contrast, the Do More 24 Delaware event in 2020 raised $390,691 in 24 hours across 276 participating nonprofits. All 501(c)(3) nonprofits serving Delaware were eligible to participate in Do More 24 Delaware.Nonprofits and individuals created fundraising pages to drive donor support and donors searched for their favorite nonprofits and donated through a single portal. Nonprofits earned matching cash awards provided by foundations and corporate sponsors; many nonprofits offered their own matching prizes to generate donor support.
