BELL COUNTY, TX â Memorial Day is a day to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
While some people are at the lake or a backyard barbecue, the Wind Therapy Freedom Riders are Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery paying their respect to our fallen service members.
The Wind Therapy Freedom Riders were founded by a group of friends who heard a veteran was going to have an unaccompanied funeral.
Now with chapters across the country, they make sure that doesnât happen on their watch.
Over the weekend and on May 31, local cities and organizations will hold ceremonies to honor the nation’s veterans who have either fallen in combat or have otherwise died.

Memorial Day became an official federal holiday in 1971. It was originally known as Decoration Day and originated in the years following the Civil War, according to the History Channel.

At 9 a.m. Monday, a virtual ceremony will take place from the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. It is being put on by the Area Veterans Advisory Committee (AVAC).
