The job advertisement states the director would “provide expert leadership, management, guidance and governance for Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS) response to the emerging COVID pandemic response, including co-ordination of public health requirements and directions, planning for and implementation of the COVID vaccination program and management of quarantine accommodation services across CQHHS.” The job pays between $5,230.70 to $5,484.20 per fortnight with an annual salary of $136,465 to $143,079 plus super and benefits.

UPDATE: Teen pedestrian seriously injured after hit-and-run

Premium Content Subscriber only UPDATE: A male pedestrian seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in North Rockhampton early on Thursday morning, is in a serious condition in hospital. A Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service spokeswoman provided the condition update on Thursday morning. A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the 18-year-old had sustained internal injuries and had undergone surgery. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing. A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said an 18-year-old man was walking home to Parkhurst when he was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Yaamba Rd and Moores Creek Rd at 1.05am.

Emergency department worker sues Rocky hospital for $750k

Premium Content Subscriber only A Yeppoon woman is suing Rockhampton Hospital for allegedly exposing her to physical and verbal abuse during her employment in the emergency department. Christine Brett, 61, worked as an administration assistant in the emergency department from 2014 to 2017. Ms Brett claims she was at times the first point of contact for injured persons and other members of the public, with patients in various states of emotional or physical distress, significant pain and suffering critical injuries with dismemberment, or suffering psychological or psychiatric condition episodes. According to her claim lodged at the Rockhampton Supreme Court, Ms Brett alleged she was exposed to verbal aggression and physical violence and witnessed other staff members being abused.

Health unit investigates evidence of tuberculosis exposure

Premium Content Subscriber only THE Central Queensland Health tuberculosis unit is investigating whether a resident of a Rockhampton aged care facility has been exposed to the disease after a worker tested positive last month. Director of Public Health Dr Gulam Khandaker said the CQ Health TB Unit had not identified any infectious TB cases related to that primary case, but a small number of staff members had evidence of latent TB (not infectious), most likely acquired overseas years ago. CQ Health confirmed one resident of the facility had been identified with evidence of possible exposure, but that resident had no symptoms of tuberculosis and was not infectious.

Mater Hospital renamed as Queensland Health takes over

QUEENSLAND Health has officially taken ownership of the Mater Hospital, with the facility now known as the Gladstone Hospital West Wing. The $42 million emergency department was part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $21.8 billion health budget for 2020-21, with $661 million allocated for Central Queensland Hospital and Health Services. CQ Health chief executive Steve Williamson said the emergency department would undergo more work from early 2021, and was expected to take up to three months. The work includes fitting out operating theatres and procedure rooms as well as a new linkway between the West Wing and main hospital campus. “The tender for the design works has just closed and is being evaluated. This phase is expected to take two to three months.”
