The link between central Palmerston North and the CET Arena is in line for a revamp, at a much higher price than first thought.

Cost to display city's bonsai collection grows out of proportion

It has been housed at the council’s Albert St depot nursery ever since, where it is cared for on advice from bonsai enthusiasts, but has not been on public display as intended. Parks and reserves manager Kathy Dever-Tod said the project involved a combined building slightly separated from the conservatory that would house the semi-tropical plants, and a rotating selection of bonsai in a secure display area. But whether the project gains support from enough councillors is far from guaranteed, with a 10-6 vote in favour of considering the expense. The council is already facing a proposed budget that would require an average 6.9 per cent or $3.48 per household next year.

Forecast rains on Central Energy Trust Arena plans

The new pedestrian bridge into Central Energy Trust Arena was taking shape in February. The open day at Palmerston North’s made-over Central Energy Trust Arena on Saturday has been postponed. The city council has pulled the plug on the celebrations at the end of a $17 million redevelopment project because of the weather forecast, which is for rain all weekend. The event is being rescheduled for Saturday, April 24. From 10am to 3pm, the open day will feature live performances, sport, food trucks, stalls and kids’ activities. Stuff

Palmerston North's Ethkick adds fair play points

Based on the concept of “friendship through football”, the emphasis had always been more on participation than competition, although rivalry for the cup, bowl and plate honours had grown strong. The new format, including a new Fair Play Award, involved the six-a-side teams from more than 40 different nationalities playing multiple 30-minute matches during the day without knock-outs. “The Ethkick symbolises all that is great about our diverse community,” Flynn said. “Every team celebrates both where they came from to be here, and a shared experience of where we are today. “As a city and region we hope to grow old together celebrating the wonderful community we call our home now and into the future.”
