NALCO awarded Utkal E coal block mining lease

Advertisement The National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO), one of India’s leading producers of alumina and aluminium, has been granted the mining lease of the Utkal E coal block. The lease has been granted by the Department of Steel & Mines, Government of Odisha, through a notification issued on 12 April. As per the notification, the mining lease of the Utkal E coal block is over an area of 523.73 Ha in villages Nandichhod, Gopinathpur Jungle, Kundajhari Jungle, Kosala & Korada under Chendipada Tahasil of Angul District. The initial capacity of the Utkal E coal block is 2 million tpy with a total mineable reserve of approximately 70 million t.

A Single Bench of Justice Ajay Bhanot laid down the procedure to be adopted by the competent authority for inquiring into the criminal antecedents of a candidate for the purpose of selection. It elucidated the type of materials that may be considered by such authority, the standard of proof, and other aggravating/ mitigating factors for the purpose. The Bench also made it clear that such inquiry is different from a trial/civil proceeding before a Court of law and hence, competent authority is not always bound by the findings of the court, nor is it invariably constrained by the opinion of the investigation officer. The order came on a writ petition filed by one Sanny Kumar, aggrieved by an order passed by the Superintendent of Police, Jalaun, cancelling his selection as Constable in the UP Police, in the backdrop of several criminal cases pending against him.

239 Tribune News Service Amritsar, April 9 Punjabi diaspora in Canada and NGOs in India have urged to introduce direct air connectivity from Vancouver and Toronto to Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International (SGRDJI) Airport, Amritsar, to facilitate travel keeping in view the year-long celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Sikh Guru who was born in Amritsar. Seeking direct connectivity with Amritsar ahead of the historic occasion, Sameep Singh Gumtala, convener of the Fly Amritsar Initiative, said direct flights to SGRDJI Airport had been a long-pending demand of thousands of Punjabis across Canada and Punjab. Gumtala said Amritsar would be the hub of celebrations of the 400th Prakash Purab, with the Punjab and Central Governments already announcing many programmes in India and abroad for the centennial celebrations.
