A two-alarm fire destroyed a barn and at least two vehicles in Madison late Thursday evening, but firefighters from seven departments were able to save the home, keeping it cool even though the siding melted.
Crews were at the scene of the fire on Cedar Street in Madison for more than two hours, with the call coming in at 10:20 p.m. and crews leaving at 12:30 a.m. Friday.
“When we have a structure fire in the town of Madison, it comes in as an all-call which gives us Anson, Madison and Starks,” Madison Fire Chief Don French said. “Once I determined we needed more resources than that, I upgraded to a second alarm which gives me four more towns.”
A resident of the nearby Ramada Inn is facing charges in connection with a fire at the Fielder s Choice Ice Cream property.
The fire was reported just before 3:00 Sunday afternoon at 339 Odlin Road, which is the location of the new Fielder s Choice Ice Cream. Witnesses at a garage across the street had called 911 to report flames coming from the building that sits near the front of the facility s parking lot. The storage shed, containing lawn care equipment and a bobcat tractor, was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene. No one was injured in the incident but the building was a total loss.
