12 Year Old Rescued in Vassalboro After Falling Through Ice As a parent it s one of the worst things you could possibly imagine. Your young child falling through a section of thin ice into the frigid waters below. Well, for one set of Winslow parents, that s exactly what happened yesterday. According to the Portland Press Herald, the 911 call came in at about 1 PM on Monday afternoon when reports of two adolescents falling through thin ice in the outlet stream in Vassalboro came in. Agencies, including the Vassalboro Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon their arrival they found that one of the victims, 13-year-old Gabriel Shorey, had already been able to get himself to shore and free himself from the water.

Three Aroostook County nursing homes are recovering from COVID-19 outbreaks that took the lives of 14 residents.  Administrators of the Caribou, Madawaska and Eagle Lake nursing homes are reporting significant recoveries following the outbreaks, which began the week before Christmas.  One person died Christmas Day at Caribou Rehab and Nursing Center, followed by four more resident deaths in the next two weeks, administrator Phil Cyr said.

Maine Restaurant Owner Donates Kidney To Customer They say the Holidays are all about giving, right?  Well, the owner of one Maine restaurant gave one of her customers the best Christmas present this year. According to WCSH, Amanda Oullette. the owner of Oxford s Daddy O s restaurant, gave one of her longtime customers a kidney. After doing the compatibility tests, they found they were not a match.  However, Oullette did not give up.  She pushed for a swap.  In the end, she donated a kidney to a person in Colorado.  That gift allowed her customer to get the kidney they needed. Both surgeries took place on December 2nd.  All parties are doing well and are expected to make a full recovery.
