$484 Million ADB Loan to Upgrade Road Network in Tamil Nadu Industrial Corridor

MANILA, PHILIPPINES (8 April 2021) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $484 million loan to improve transport connectivity and road maintenance in the Chennai–Kanyakumari Industrial Corridor (CKIC) in Tamil Nadu, India.
The CKIC is part of India’s East Coast Economic Corridor, which stretches from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu and connects India to the production networks of Southeast and East Asia.
“The development of the CKIC is part of ADB’s commitment to the Government of India to stimulate growth in industrial corridors by linking industrial growth centers and ports hinterland along the coastline and integrating regional value chains,” said ADB Principal Transport Specialist for South Asia Kanzo Nakai. “The project aims to increase the manufacturing industry’s participation in production networks and global value chains, a

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 5 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Karuppa Palaniswami has expressed confidence that his party, the AIADMK, would emerge victorious in the assembly elections on April 6.
Born in Edappadi town of Salem district in Tamil Nadu, Palaniswami began his career in politics with AIADMK in 1974. He was born on May 12, 1954. His father Karuppa Gounder and mother Thavasiyammal were both farmers by profession. He hails from the influential Gounder community. However, after completing his schooling, he got enrolled in college but could not complete the course due to personal reasons.
