Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson announced Friday the promotion of Midwest regional vice president, Dennis Brockman to senior vice president and global chief inclusion and diversity officer. He replaces Nzinga Shaw, who left the company in December to work for Marsh & McLennan. Additionally, Michael Hines has been promoted from director of inclusion and diversity compliance and analytics to vice president of inclusion and diversity.
Brockman took the role on an interim basis in December and has now been officially promoted after working for Starbucks for 13 years. Before working as Midwest regional vice president, Brockman was the regional director of operations for the company.

WASHINGTON - D.C. police say an officer shot a man who brandished a knife at officers Friday in Northeast.
The shooting happened around 3:28 a.m. Friday in the 1600 block of New York Avenue NE.
Police say they found a man on the street, and he walked toward officers with a knife when officers attempted contact.
One officer shot the man after he ignored orders to drop the knife and back away.

George Washington Inn & Conference Center
The Schottenstein Realty Company submitted an application to rezone 6.4 acres off Merrimac Trail from general business to planned development residential.
The applicant, Jeff Schottenstein, proposed a plan to make the George Washington Inn and Conference Center into 125 workforce housing units for people such as first responders, teachers and nurses.
Besides the interior renovations, Tim Cross, the county’s planning director, said the applicant also wanted to demolish two existing structures the former restaurant building in front of the hotel and the rear conference center and one of the three entrances off Merrimac Trail.
