Surgery staff create shrine for late Clacton doctor | Maldon and Burnham Standard

Karamat Ullah Mirza, 84, of Clacton, tragically died last May at Colchester Hospital after contracting Covid-19. The much-loved doctor, who had lived and worked in the area since 1974, helped hundreds of patients at the Old Road Medical Practice. To mark what would have been his 85th birthday, on May 7, his former patients, along with his friends and family, were last month asked to send messages to the surgery. Following an overwhelming response, staff members used the notes to create a colourful tribute display at the front of the practice and in the window. The touching messages, printed and written on heart-shaped pieces of paper, serve as a reminder of the lasting impact Dr Mirza had on so many people in the town.

COMMENT | Stephenson’s music Words: Phil Griffin | Architectural photography: Daniel Hopkinson Roger Stephenson OBE has withdrawn from the front line of Manchester architecture, from a position and cause he has been fighting for in his own name since 1979. He has made enemies and lost battles, but few would deny that Roger Stephenson OBE has had a greater impact on the shape and face of contemporary Manchester than any individual since Alfred Waterhouse. If Manchester has a look, it came out of the Stephenson closet. He was awarded a First Class Honours degree by Liverpool University School of Architecture in 1969. Stephenson is a progressive, and he moved through BDP and Michael Hyde & Associates (as a partner) before establishing Stephenson Mills (with George Mills) in 1979.
