It comes from the Lee-Enfield rifle, which in various versions was the British Empire s battle rifle from the 1890s through to the 1950s. Hot stuff, in its place and time.
I own two: a FazerkleyNo. 4 Mk II which from its serial number was an Irish Constabulary rifle, and an Ishapore 2A (in 7.62x51!). Neither get shot enough, as I m mostly a handgun shooter. Cheap surplus .303 British has essentially dried up, which is not surprising since the only rifle that shoots it was last made 50 years ago.

Tulsa businesses have teamed up to provide supplies to veterans who don t have shelter this winter, which they said is a problem made worse by the pandemic. Organizers told News On 6 the effort began with a Good Samaritan who saw a need and decided to fill it.
The generous Tulsan said it s his duty and obligation as a U.S. citizen to serve America s homeless heroes. This all started many months ago,” said Dr. Mike Hight, Humana Health Services.
Dr. Hight said he and his wife were leaving a restaurant when a veteran across the street came out from under a bridge with his dog tag hugging his neck, homeless and needing help. Dr. Hight bought the veteran lunch and believes that s the least he can do for a man he s banked on for his freedom.
A MUM, grandmother and great-mother enjoyed a small celebration as she marked her 100th birthday. Edith Hall is a resident at Bay Court Care Home in Kinmel Bay. She marked her milestone birthday on Sunday, January 10. Michael Horton, manager of Bay Court, said: She loved it. The residents were able to join her and be around her, social distancing. She has been with us since April 2016. She is a very experienced lady. Mrs Hall was born and bred in Blackpool as Edith Wild. She worked at Marks and Spencer after leaving school then went to work as an usherette at Blackpool tower where she met her future Husband John Hall who worked at the Blackpool tower zoo.
