Men and women fleeing violence in Central America, political strife in Haiti and Venezuela. Boys and girls sent alone by their families, in the hope that America will offer them better lives.
They are beckoned by the image of the United States as a welcoming and merciful nation. But a disturbing increase in racist and xenophobic attacks targeting Americans with Asian and Pacific Island backgrounds makes it brutally obvious that my country doesn’t always live up to its promise of acceptance.
Can a society that treats some of its own citizens of color as not fully American take responsibility for those who have left everything behind to become one of us?

This year s Kentucky Derby was set to be a positive return to a semblance of normalcy after last year s race was delayed and then held with no spectators due to the pandemic. On May 1, trainer Bob Baffert made history with his seventh career win at Churchill Downs, but a week later, the good feelings abruptly ended with the announcement that his horse Medina Spirit tested positive for a drug, leaving the second leg of the Triple Crown race at the Preakness in question.

NASA astronauts Michael Hopkins, Shannon Walker, Soichi Noguchi and Victor Glover, shared details about their experience traveling onboard Space Exploration Technologies Corp. s (SpaceX) Crew Dragon capsule as part of their SpaceX Crew-1 mission for the space agency. The crew took to the skies late last year and returned earlier this month, becoming part of the first operational crewed mission to the International Space Station (ISS) from U.S. soil.
