Police say they have recovered over $2,000 worth of stolen equipment from Watsonville High School. The items were taken during a New Year’s Eve burglary. Two alert residents were able to help officers identify and arrest the suspect, Michael Mortimer.
Mortimer, a 27-year-old man, was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on felony burglary, possession of stolen property, probation violation and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.

According to police, officers recovered more than $2,000 worth of stolen laptops, a projector and an equipment cart. The recovery came after residents told officers that Michael Mortimer had the items. Officers were able to find the man blocks away from the high school. Mortimer was booked into the county jail for felony burglary, possession of stolen property, probation violation, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was already on probation for burglary, police said.
