Bob Peters believes the firmness of modern Australian racetracks is the root cause of soundness issues and thoroughbred ‘wastage’.
Peters doesn’t echo the sentiments of prominent trainers
Mick Kent Snr, Tony McEvoy and
“If you’re looking at wastage it’s got a lot to do with tracks, most of our breed these days need some give in the ground because the stallions that have been breed shapers are mainly European,” Peters said.
“The ratings of the track and the presentation of the tracks are causing a lot of breakdowns and we just need to improve that and prepare the tracks far softer than what they are now because in general, it has the biggest effect on wastage.”
