They really like bread, Thomson said.  Thomson raised his first pig last year.  I named it and everything, he said. Since we didn t take him to the fair (because of COVID-19), we had to take him to the slaughterhouse. Thomson did not name his pig this year.  While Thomson and his family worked to herd their pigs into their pins, other 4-Hers set up fans to keep their pigs cool throughout the week. As she waited on a water dish, Haley Steffener, 15, of Sperry, sprayed water into her hog Fred s mouth. Fred looked grateful for the relief.  Steffener has been showing pigs at the fair since she was in fourth grade, a tradition that began with her aunt and uncle and carried on by her and her 11-year-old brother, Luke.
