Metro Atlanta leaders to use federal money to address crime

(The Center Square) – Leaders in the metro Atlanta area said they plan to use American Rescue Plan funding to address public safety issues. Officials in Fulton and DeKalb counties and the city of Atlanta have announced plans to use a portion of the federal aid to increase public safety or address criminal justice backlogs. According to several reports, Atlanta and adjacent cities have seen a spike in crime over the past year. State lawmakers have launched a study to look at ways to curb the issue. Gov. Brian Kemp directed $5 million last month from his emergency fund to address the crisis.

DeKalb residents get COVID-19 vaccines, care packages at drive-thru event

DeKalb County Board of Health and DeKalb Fire Rescue medical personnel administered COVID-19 vaccines to residents, who then received one 20-pound box of Georgia-grown fruit and vegetables, one dozen eggs and a 10-pound package of a chicken hindquarter.

DeKalb County summer camps, park facilities set to reopen By FOX 5 Atlanta Digital Team Published  DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - It s time to get outside and for kids to have summer activities again, and DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced Monday sets to gradually make that happen.  Since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced fully vaccinated people could ease mask use and advised the safety of large outdoor gatherings, DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will reopen all facilities and amenities beginning on May 21. The initial re-opening encompasses all athletic fields, sports facilities, playgrounds, picnic shelters and outdoor basketball courts.

DeKALB COUNTY, Ga. - Hundreds of paid, virtual internship opportunities are up for grabs in DeKalb and as of Monday night, 3,000 young people had applied.  The positions are strictly for county youth, but DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond says the extra cash could help families bring in extra cash. The coronavirus changed just about everything, including summer internships.
