Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 11) The Food and Drug Administration reiterated that it has not yet officially approved remdesivir and ivermectin for COVID-19 treatment, but both drugs can be used for limited permits in several hospitals.

The Source, FDA Director General Eric Domingo said the antiviral drug remdesivir is also classified as an investigational product, which can be used by hospitals that were granted compassionate special permits. The FDA gives compassionate permits for drugs like remdesivir, Domingo explained. Ivermectin has also been granted a compassionate special permit in several hospitals. These are products that are not registered.

Two Philippine House lawmakers on May 9 criticised the Department of Health (DoH) for buying one billion pesos ($21 million) worth of remdesivir even after the World Health Organisation (WHO) had rejected the use of the drug in Covid-19 treatment.
Anakalusugan Representative Michael Defensor and House Deputy Speaker Lito Atienza also questioned the DoH’s decision to push through with the transaction, which they described as a waste of money.
“We consider all new purchases of remdesivir as reckless and foolish spending in light of the WHO recommendation, and considering that [the] government is scrounging for money to buy more Covid-19 vaccines and pay for the 2,000-peso cash aid for every Filipino contemplated under the Bayanihan 3 bill,” Defens

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque is a coronavirus survivor mainly because of the antiviral drug called remdesivir.
Roque made a pitch for remdesivir to help ease coronavirus symptoms after some lawmakers questioned the Department of Health’s (DOH) purchase of the drug as treatment for the illness.
Appearing on a televised press briefing from Davao City, the Palace official admitted he thought he was going to die when he was hospitalized for coronavirus disease last month. His health condition only improved after taking two vials of remdesivir.
