Former Portland developer Michael Liberty among Mainers to get Trump’s final pardons
The developer of multiple real estate projects, including the Chandler Wharf condominiums, was convicted in 2016 of illegal campaign donations and is facing other charges.

Former Portland real estate developer Michael Liberty is one of at least two Mainers among the nearly 150 people granted last-minute pardons by outgoing President Donald Trump.
In addition to Liberty, who was convicted of campaign finance violations in 2016, Trump also commuted the sentence of an Aroostook County man, Michael Pelletier, who was serving life in prison for running a marijuana smuggling operation.

In the final hours of his presidency, President Donald Trump granted pardons to 73 people and commuted the sentences of 70 other individuals.
The White House announced the final flurry of pardons and commutations Wednesday morning. The list includes many of his loyalists, including former campaign strategist Steve Bannon, Republican fundraiser Eliot Broidy, and Paul Erickson. Recipients also include rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, who were convicted on weapons-related charges.
Many of the pardons and commutations were given to non-violent drug offenders, including a former Marine who was sentenced in 2002 in connection with a cocaine conviction.
