ALPENA – The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was presided over by President Darryl McQuarrie at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9 with 15 members in attendance.
The secretary and treasurer reports from January were read and accepted after review. Tammy gave the bingo report and made a donation. Several committee reports were presented and it was announced that the donated items for the craft basket were on display and only a few things were still needed.
An update on the success of the lasagna dinner was shared with members and Darryl thanked everyone for their help and donation of desserts.
The fish fry schedule for Lent was announced and the Auxiliary will be in charge March 5 and 26.

Join New Canaan Library in welcoming Michael Cramer, Professor of Film History at Sarah Lawrence College, who will explore the various factors and influences that produced some of Italy’s most renowned and artistic films. Professor Cramer’s talk is the second in New Canaan Library’s new cultural series, Movements in Cinema, and will take place via live webinar on Thursday, January 21 at 7 PM EST. VIRGINIA â A man accused of second degree murder in the 2019 killing of Frank Meyer is challenging search warrants obtained by law enforcement to bring his charges forward, saying the filings âmisrepresented and omitted facts.â
J. Nicholas Cramer, 53, is asking for a so-called âFranks hearingâ to invalidate the search warrants four months after a judge denied his motion to dismiss the intentional murder charge filed in June. In a filing last week, public defender Bhupesh Pattni said his client is arguing that law enforcementâs applications for the warrants âcontain statements which are false and which were made with the reckless disregard for the truth, and consist of material omissions.â
