A Permanent Stimulus Check ? Will Expanded Child Tax Credits Become Permanent?
Some Democrats want to set the expanded child tax credits in stone; or at least keep the measure around for a few more years.
President Joe Biden told lawmakers that he plans to propose a temporary extension of the expanded child tax credit but didn’t commit to making the measure permanent, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The enhanced child tax credit was featured in Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that the president signed last month, where Congress boosted the credit from $2,000 to $3,000 and allowed parents with children under the age of 6 to qualify for $3,600. The measure also permits parents of children at an age of 17 eligible for a tax credit.

The White House is expected to roll out the plan within days.
Biden s American Jobs Plan, which congressional Democrats have started to craft, calls to revamp roads, bridges, airports, broadband, utilities, housing and job training.
The second piece is expected to expand child care, paid leave, pre-K education and tax credits for families, while raising taxes on the wealthy. Those policies are priorities for progressives, who have said they want to address shortcomings in the social safety net exposed by the coronavirus pandemic, which disproportionately affect women in the labor market.
