STAMFORD Fittingly, Stamford Stands Against Racism’s first discussion on racism and faith opened with a prayer.
“We come together today in a spirit of listening and learning to engage with one another around the topic and the plague that is often taboo to discuss in our culture: racism,” said the Rev. Shelley Donaldon of First Presbyterian Church.
“It is racism that plagues us all regardless of who we are, or where we come from, or what race we identify as,” she continued. “May these conversations help guide each of us in our lives. May it be so.”

It was reported in August 2020 that engineers at BAE Systems (Farnborough, U.K.) are exploiting the digital environment to design, test and fly concepts for
Tempest, a next-generation combat air system for the U.K.
The company reports that, using digital twin technologies, conceptual shapes for the aircraft have been virtually designed and tested, with high-performance computers able to calculate the aerodynamic performance of different aircraft features and test pilots, taking
Tempest to the skies from a ground-based simulator.
Once digitally tested, scale models were 3D printed and put through their paces at BAE Systems wind tunnel facilities at Warton, Lancashire, to physically test the aerodynamic properties of the design under harsh wind speeds of more than twice the speed of sound. Data from these trials is now being used to refine and shape the final design of the U.K. s next co

Everyone else has published their year-end lists of The Best, Our Favorites, Top 10, and so forth (that includes me individually and Lit Hub editorially, too). Why shouldn’t we gather the Best from 2020’s Books You May Have Missed? Choosing from the fifty-odd titles means that these ten are really the cream of a much bigger crop. A few have already gathered awards (
High as the Waters Rise,
Alligator), a few remain sleeper hits (
Greenwood,
The Comeback), while others just sleep. Wake up, readers, and check out these amazing books by a diverse group of authors from around the world.

One certainty for 2021 is that Europe’s parallel efforts to develop the region’s next-generation Future Combat Air System (FCAS) will not see a convergence.
Indeed, the rival activities – which respectively involve the defence ministries and industrial champions of France, Germany and Spain; and Italy, Sweden and the UK – will make significant progress along their separate tracks.

Paris, Berlin and Madrid are participating in an FCAS programme including the design of a New Generation Fighter, with Dassault and Airbus Defence & Space at the forefront.
WEHI researchers suggest potential new approach to treat stomach cancer
WEHI researchers have identified a key molecular regulator involved in the progression and spread of stomach cancer, suggesting a potential new approach to treat this devastating disease.
The team discovered that removing the inflammatory signalling protein TNF in a laboratory model prevented early stage stomach cancers from progressing to a more severe stage that, in humans, is much harder to treat. This discovery suggests that stomach cancers may respond to medicines that inhibit TNF. Of note, drugs that inhibit TNF have already shown success in the clinic for certain other diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis.
