Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday addressed the nation during the “ceremonial guard mounting” by Malawi Defence Force soldiers at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe observing Martyrs’ Day when the country honours political heroes who gave their lives in the struggle against British colonialism.

Dressed in black suit with white shirt and black tie, Chakwera who was accompanied by First Lady Monica Chakwera, Vice President Saulos Chilima and Minister of Tourism and culture Micheal Usi, among other top government officials, watched the soldiers parade.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife, Dr. Michael Usi on says time has come that Malawians should start considering tourism as business if the sector is to make meaningful contribution to the development of the country.

Usi made the remarks when he engaged officials from Lengwe National Park, Chikwawa District Council, selected chiefs and officers from Chikwawa Police Station to a discussion following incidents of crocodile attacks in the district on Friday .
He said there is need for people to seriously balance their culture that would in turn positively impact on the tourism sector.

Kamlepo Kalua’s Son Fredokiss Joins UTM
Malawi’s top hip-hop artist Fredokiss real name Penjani Kalua has joined UTM party, which is one of the ruling parties in the Tonse Alliance administration.
Fredokiss, a son to a veteran politician Kamlepo Kalua, said he decided to join UTM because it is a safe space for new generation ideas.
In a statement, UTM party has announced that a ceremony to welcome the hip hop artist into the party is set for Thursday, December 31, at Zingwangwa Youth Centre in Blantyre.
He will be welcomed into the party by UTM vice-president Michael Usi and party patron Noel Masangwi.
