A Surfer Rescues a Woman Caught in a Rip Current An Australian surfer named Mikey Wright was in Hawaii filming the ocean when he noticed a woman caught in a rip current. People were trying to rescue her with no luck, so he dropped his phone and ran into the water, and pulled her to safety. ( Warning! There s an S-word in the first clip . That s the one where he drops the phone and runs into the water. The second clip is him actually rescuing her.) . Champion surfing siblings have spoken about their heroic efforts after a dramatic video of them saving a drowning woman in Hawaii last week shocked the world.   Australian athletes Tyler, 27, and Mikey Wright, 24, made a joint rescue of a female beachgoer who was swept out into the rocky reefs at Ke Iki Beach in Hawaii on New Year s Eve. The dramatic moment Mikey ran into rough surf to rescue a woman being dragged out into sea was shared widely online, with viewers calling the sibling rescue an absolutely heroic effort . On New Year s Eve, pro surfer Mikey Wright was drinking and enjoying the ocean view from his place in Oahu when he and his family saw a woman swept up in the rough waters. As people ran toward the water, he grabbed his phone and started filming to document her rescue. But he realized it soon might be too late to help her. So Wright handed his phone and beer to his wife, took off his shirt, hopped a fence and sprinted toward the water.
