Due to their 2020 record, the Diamondbacks will have the sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft, which gets under way on Sunday. There has already been much discussion about who might be available after the five teams ahead of them have had their choice, and in what direction Arizona might go. We will only know that when their choice is made public; for obvious reasons, GM Mike Hazen and his staff will keep their draft board close to their chests. But what we can do, is look at the previous picks in that spot, and that should then give us an idea of the production we can expect from the spot.
Auburn s Tim Locastro excited after trade to New York Yankees
As the missed calls and text messages flooded his phone, Tim Locastro knew something was up.Â
The news was out: The Auburn native is coming home to New York. Locastro, who played parts of three seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, was acquired by the New York Yankees on Thursday. The Diamondbacks received minor league pitcher Keegan Curtis in the trade. I called (Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen) right away and he informed me of the news, Locastro said in a phone interview. I talked to our manager, Torey Lovullo. I called (Yankees general manager) Brian Cashman . the trade is official. Â

In this part, the examination shifts to Arizona’s pitching prospects. Pitching is this farm system’s strength. That shouldn’t come as a surprise for anyone. Other than 2017, when Mike Hazen first came on board, and during a time he openly admits he was not as prepared for the draft as he would have liked, Arizona’s drafts have been pitcher heavy at the top. 2018 saw the Diamondbacks make six of their first nine signed picks (six of ten overall thanks to the Matt McLain affair) come from the pitching ranks. In 2019, it was six of 10 picks, including selections 2-6. In 2020, it was four out of five total picks in the draft. Three of those four are already making waves. When looking at the few position players which were selected above or among the pitchers in those three years, the players that one sees are Jake McCarthy and Corbin Carroll.
