The former leader of Lichfield District Council has been confirmed as a candidate for the forthcoming Staffordshire County Council elections.

The Conservatives have confirmed Cllr Mike Wilcox will contest the Burntwood South seat when voters go to the polls in May.
Cllr Wilcox – who represents the Alrewas and Fradley ward on Lichfield District Council – said he was keen to see through the work of current county councillor, Cllr Helen Fisher.
“If I am successfully elected to represent Burntwood South, I will continue the hard work that my Conservative predecessor has done over the past four years.

Members of a task group looking at plans for a new Lichfield leisure centre were “disappointed” that some facilities had to be cut from the proposals, a councillor has said.

Lichfield District Council is hoping to build a long term replacement for Friary Grange Leisure Centre on Stychbrook Park.
The £12million scheme would include a swimming pool, 3G pitch and fitness suites.
But Cllr Liz Little, cabinet member for major projects and economic development, said some compromises had been made to keep costs under control.

How technology helps to propel growth
The umbrella of CMI Orchards’ owners and partners are using cutting-edge technology from the orchard to packing facilities.
“A big focus at CMI Orchards is to strategically forecast marketplace dynamics 10 years from now. This helps us understand how technology can be used to help our growers produce fruit in the most efficient manner to meet anticipated consumer demands,” explained Bob Mast, president of CMI Orchards.
One example of this is the software used in orchards to monitor soil moisture levels at different elevations. “This digital monitoring provides real-time data on temperature, soil moisture and wind speed to my phone. This helps maintain proper fruit size and reduces disease and waste in our organic blocks,” explained Mike Robinson, co-owner of Double Diamond Fruit.

In December 2020, Lawrence County Independent Schools was approved to operate as a charter school.
Lawrence County Independent Schools started the application process with Education One LLC and Trine University to operate a charter school following the consolidation of four elementary schools and one middle school in the North Lawrence Community School system.
