Ravens Need to Replace Several Assistant Coaches This Offseason

OWINGS MILLS, Md. While much of the Ravens focus this offseason is adding playmakers, they will also need to replace several assistant coaches.
In the past couple of weeks, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh s staff on defense has been purged by other programs.
Inside linebackers coach Mike Macdonald agreed to be the defensive coordinator at Michigan.
Defensive back coach Jesse Minter took the job as the defensive coordinator at Vanderbilt.
Defensive line coach Joe Cullen is moving onto the Jacksonville Jaguars as head coach Urban Meyer s defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports.

Jim Harbaugh has reportedly made another hire on the defensive side of the ball, tapping another up-and-coming assistant for his Michigan staff.
George Helow, who spent the 2020 season as special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Maryland, will join the Wolverines as safeties coach, according to multiple reports.
Both ESPN and The Athletic are reporting the hire, which has not yet been announced by Michigan. Mike Macdonald, a 33-year-old assistant for the Baltimore Ravens, was named defensive coordinator on Sunday.
Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Jesse Minter is expected to leave his position to accept the defensive coordinator job at Vanderbilt, becoming the second member of the staff to depart for the college ranks, according to reports from Yahoo Sports and others.

The MacDonald hire was rumored for weeks but couldn’t happen until the Ravens season ended, which it did with their playoff loss to the Bills on Saturday. MacDonald has never been a coordinator at any level. He got into coaching while a student at Georgia, assisting his former high school coach at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens. Georgia hired him as a graduate assistant in 2011, and John Harbaugh picked MacDonald up as a coaching intern in 2014, working with the secondary and linebackers until earning a coaching position with the latter in 2018.
