Seven people have died and one was seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on the N1 near Modimolle on Friday night.
According to the provincial the Department of Transport and Community Safety s Mike Maringa, preliminary investigations cite mechanical problems as a possible cause of the accident. A trailer allegedly broke from a bakkie and was hit at the rear end by the trailing Hyndai Sedan, said Maringa .
Two other vehicles, including an Isuzu Bakkie that was pulling a trailer, collided with a Reanult sedan. Four occupants in the sedan were killed instantly and two passengers from the bakkie were also certified dead on the scene, said Maringa .

JOHANNESBURG - Seven people have died in a car accident on the N1 near Modimolle in Limpopo.
The Transport Department said a trailer detached from a bakkie and collied with several vehicles on Friday night.
The department s Mike Maringa said one person was seriously injured.
“The MEC has sent condolences to the families and pleaded with motorists to check the condition of their vehicles and to drive within the speed limit.”
