The latest wars in our region, in which Turkish drones have played a key role, have justifiably, albeit perhaps excessively, alarmed military analysts around the world.
Although the threat was dramatic in the Nagorno-Karabakh war, it has been around for several years and we have had a taste of it in the conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, Yemen and Libya.
“Thanks to advanced Turkish drones belonging to the Azerbaijani army, our losses at the front have shrunk,” Azeri President Ilam Aliyev told a Turkish television channel.
“These aircraft show the strength of Turkey and that strengthens us,” he added.

Atlanta, GA, December 22, 2020 (PR.com) Boxing legacy Evan “Yung Holy” Holyfield scored a first-round TKO in his fifth outing as a professional on Dec. 12 in Atlanta, dispatching Donnis Reed to remain unbeaten as a super welterweight. Holyfield, 23, unleashed a non-stop offensive barrage before the contest was called at the 1:53 mark as the fighter’s father, former four-time heavyweight world champion Evander Holyfield, watched ringside.
“My strategy was to be aggressive,” said Holyfield (5-0, 4 KOs) of his quick work versus the 35-year-old Reed. “Once I connected on a couple punches early, I wanted to keep landing the jab and finish the job.”

The National Weather Service is monitoring an impending winter storm that is developing in central Iowa Friday.
A mixture of rain and snow is expected throughout the day in Marshall County, turning completely to snow in the early evening through the overnight hours. A projected 3-6 inches of snow is expected to accumulate through Saturday morning.
“It’s going to be that heavy, wet variety. It may take a little time for the snow to accumulate,” said Mike Fowle, a meteorologist with NWS in Des Moines. “The worst conditions in terms of travel will be overnight especially into Saturday morning. It might linger into Saturday afternoon.”
Solar array seeks to turn contaminated site into new energy [Post-Bulletin, Rochester, Minn.]
Dec. 9 A partnership between Olmsted County, Cenergy Power and People’s Energy Cooperative is turning tax-forfeited land into an energy producer.
“Before Olmsted County acquired this land, it was originally a radar monitoring base used by the U.S. government,” Mat Miller, the county’s director of facilities and building operations, said of the approximately 6 acres at 4613 70th Ave. NE in Haverhill Township.
A private purchase of the land, which was part of a larger property, led to the accumulation of waste and contamination that made much of the combined 22 acres unusable before the county invested time and money into cleanup.
