Del City Teen Opens Lemonade Stand To Help Support Grandmother Battling Stage 4 Breast Cancer

By: Mike Glover DEL CITY, Oklahoma - Buddy found out on his birthday, February 27, 2020, that his grandmother had stage four breast cancer. But he didn’t let that get him down he fought back with his lemonade stand.  Buddy’s lemonade stand is on the corner of Mickey Road and Southeast 22nd Street in Del City. They’ve been open for about two months. The idea for the stand came last year after his grandmother in Texas called with the news of her cancer diagnosis.  “Buddy didn’t want grandma to be hurt, because she felt bad that she had to do it on that day,” Andee Guerra, Buddy’s mother said. 

Byron Berline - Owner Of The Double Stop Fiddle Shop - Remembered As Icon, Great Husband & Dad

By: Mike Glover Byron Berline was an icon in the music industry, not just in Guthrie, but all over the world.  He started playing the fiddle at age five and quickly developed his talent. He recorded with artists like Rod Stewart, the Eagles, The Rolling Stones, even Elton John and Bob Dylan and countless others.  Byron and his band performed shows every two weeks at his store in Guthrie, The Double Stop Fiddle Shop.  Sadly, about a month ago Byron had two strokes and died from complications around 7:30 p.m. Saturday - just as his band was taking the stage. 

NewView Kids With Vision Challenges Visit The Oklahoma City Zoo

NewView Oklahoma is a local nonprofit serving Oklahomans with vision loss. They host camps and activities throughout the year and Friday some of those kids took a visit to the Oklahoma City Zoo. While most people wouldn’t consider the zoo as a place for kids with vision challenges, Andrea Hamen believes it is perfect.  “We’re really excited to be able to go through the zoo. Jacob and I will work the kids on a small intimate experience so that we can really talk to them about what the animals look like and maybe if we know what the texture of the animals feel like,” Hamen said. 

Local Nonprofit, Grand Gentleman, Awards Scholarships To Black High School Graduates

Grand Gentlemen is a local nonprofit designed to uplift, encourage and inspire young men of color.  The group founded in 2014 officially became a nonprofit in 2019 and is already making a difference.  “I want people to look at young Black men and see success, and see ambition, and see somebody that can change the world and uplift their community,” said Korey Eakers, one of the founders of the group.  Grand Gentlemen host several events throughout the year. They have an annual coat drive and back to school drive. In February they hosted a suit drive and gave away over 150 suits to the community at Black Star Urban Culture Market in northeast Oklahoma City.
