Democrat lawmakers are looking to have President Joe Biden’s administration end a local police program that successfully turns criminal illegal aliens over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency for arrest and deportation.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL), and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) have sent a letter to Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, asking him to terminate the agency’s 287(g) agreements with local law enforcement agencies.
The 287(g) program allows local law enforcement agencies to sign agreements with ICE to seamlessly identify criminal illegal aliens and turn them over to federal agents for arrest and deportation.
Democratic lawmakers have urged US President, Joe Biden, to stop using local police to enforce US immigration laws, arguing that it is ‘making the country less safe by dissuading immigrants from coming forward to report serious crimes. A letter was recently sent urging the Biden administration to immediately ‘terminate agreements’ with local police.
The letter, sent on April 22 by Senator Cory Booker to US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, called for the new administration to ‘immediately terminate’ so-called 287(g) agreements, which allow state and local police to ‘operate as federal US immigration agents’.
Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, was joined on the letter by Republican, Mike Quigley, of Illinois and Washington Republican, Pramila Jayapal, who is chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., has stockpiled an astounding $9,410,355 in campaign cash, according to new fundraising reports released last week that cover the first quarter of 2021.
That staggering cash-on-hand balance as of March 31 keeps Krishnamoorthi in the top tier of all House members – not just Illinois - when it comes to saving up and not spending contributions.
Only a few other U.S. House members keep more in the bank: California Democrats Rep. Adam Schiff, had $14.4 million cash on hand; Rep. Katie Porter, $11.5 million; and GOP California Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., $11.3 million.
