Columbia police search for missing 25-year-old The Daily Herald The Columbia Police Department is searching for a missing 25-year old woman who left a car as it waited at a stop light. Kenyana Cradle was last seen Wednesday at the intersection of Sunnyside Lane and Trotwood Aveenue. Lt. Jeremy Haywood said Cradle exited the vehicle driven by her boyfriend as the two were waiting at a red light at the intersection. There is no real explanation to why this occurred, Haywood said. He said the department s investigation did not determine the incident was the result of a domestic dispute.  Haywood said Cradle suffers from a medical condition and shared the department is concerned for her safety.

Maury County Schools teachers, staff to get bonuses, school board says

The Daily Herald Maury County Public Schools has unanimously approved a one-time bonus for all the school district’s educators and staff. The bonus combines state funds approved for a 2% raise for teachers and other certified educators, including school administrators, librarians, social workers and counselors, along with local funds needed to expand the bonus offering to all personnel. The raises will cost the school district a total of more than $1.5 million. Of the $891,250.19 state funds allotted to implement the raises, just $537,500 of those funds are covered through the state s BEP education funding formula. MCPS must spend $353,750.19 of its own funds to ensure all teachers and staff (certified and classified) see the one-time boost in pay. 

Maury County teachers receive COVID-19 vaccine

Hope for a really hard year All middle and high school students enrolled at MCPS transitioned to remote learning on Friday as their teachers, principals and staff received the vaccination. The medical center remained open Saturday as the school districts’ elementary school educators and staff received the vaccine. “It think, both personally and professionally, we can breathe a little bit more,” said Mandy Perrish, an 8th grade teacher at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, moments after receiving her first dose “It is at least one more step to getting to normal,” Perrish said. “I’ll still wear a mask and practice social distancing, but it does feel like a burden has been lifted a little bit.”

Maury County approves pay raise for deputies and corrections officers

The Daily Herald The Maury County Commission has unanimously approved an immediate increase in compensation for sworn officers and corrections personnel at the Maury County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Bucky Rowland, who has been advocating for the salary increases, believes the boost will help to retain current officers and attract future ones.  The raises represent $5,914.96 for captains, an $8,954.30 increase for lieutenants and a $16,923.82 for sergeants within the department. Sergeants working within the local jail will see a $7,076.37 increase and maintenance staff working at the local corrections facility will see a $2,555.22 increase. The raises also offer increases to social security, retirement, disability and medical to the department’s employees.
