Mayville State University has ramped up its focus on agriculture by offering a new agribusiness degree program and hosting Agribusiness Activity Days for high school students to teach them about all of the opportunities the industry of agriculture offers.

WILLISTON, N.D. – The State Board of Higher Education has named Bernell Hirning as the next president of Williston State College.
Two finalists were interviewed by board members Thursday, April 29, on the Williston State campus. Twenty-none applications were received for the position. This past month, six candidates each spent time visiting campus and in public forums, meeting with students, faculty and staff, and interviewing with the presidential search committee. The committee then narrowed the field to four finalists on April 9. Two of the finalists were later selected for positions at other campuses.

An alumnus of Williston State College is the new
president of the college.
Dr. Bernell Hirning was appointed today (Thu) by the State Board of Higher Education.
Hirning most recently spent 18 years as associate vice president of the northern region at National University in Fresno, California. He previously worked three years as a business professor at Mayville State.
Hirning grew up in Mott (ND). He got his associate degree at Williston State in 1985…his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Minot State…and his PhD at Capella University in Minneapolis.

MAYVILLE, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State University clinched its second straight NSAA Softball Conference Championship on Wednesday with a pair of victories at Mayville State.
The Vikings defeated the Comets 6-0 and 9-1 to secure the regular season conference title. With four NSAA games remaining, the Vikings are now 21-2 in conference play and lead second-place Bellevue by 4.5 games.
It is VCSU’s second straight conference title, the 13
th in program history and the first under coaches Mark Mattson and Barbi Mattson. The Vikings last won the title in 2019. The 2020 conference season was canceled due to COVID-19.
“We’re feeling great – everybody’s excited,” head coach Mark Mattson said after the game. “Our goal is always to win the last game of the year, but there are milestones to celebrate along the way. It’s always special to win a conference title.”
