KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 Bursa Malaysia opened higher but had subsequently turned lower amidst cautious sentiment in the broader market as the daily Covid-19 tally remained above 10,000 cases.
On Sunday, Malaysia recorded 10,710 new positive cases, with 153 deaths.
At 9.08am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shed 1.67 points to 1,520.81 from Friday’s close of 1,522.48.
The index opened 0.19 of-a-point higher at 1,522.67.
Market breadth was negative with losers leading gainers 207 to 169, while 301 counters were unchanged, 1,565 untraded and 10 others suspended.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 ― Bursa Malaysia’s key index was lower at mid-morning today due to persistent selling activities, led by the healthcare sector.
At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) decreased 4.49 points to 1,516.33 from yesterday’s close of 1,520.82.
The index opened 3.08 points higher at 1,523.90.
Losers surpassed gainers at 389 to 351, while 388 counters were unchanged, 1,111 untraded and 18 others suspended.
KUALA LUMPUR (July 16): Share prices of rubber glove manufacturers Hartalega Holdings Bhd, Supermax Corp Bhd and Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd erased gains after opening higher today on profit taking as investors continue to weigh Malaysia s record high daily numbers of new Covid-19 cases.
At the time of writing today, Hartalega s share price fell 21 sen or 2.75% to RM7.43, Supermax shed eight sen or 2.29% to RM3.42 while Kossan was nine sen or 2.74% lower at RM3.19. Top Glove Corp Bhd fell three sen or 0.74% to RM4.01.
Earlier at 9am today, Hartalega s share price opened up five sen or 0.65% at RM7.69, Top Glove rose five sen or 1.24% to RM4.09, Kossan added four sen or 1.22% to RM3.32 while Supermax was four sen or 1.14% higher at RM3.54.
