Backstage News On The WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles

WWE officials reportedly wanted to debut the new WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles a while back.
Last night’s NXT episode saw NXT General Manager William Regal reveal the new straps, naming Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez as the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions for their recent win in the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Kai and Gonzalez were then challenged by Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart, and dropped the titles to them later on in the show.
It was reported today on Wrestling Observer Live that WWE came up with the idea for the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles a while ago. The original idea was for the Women’s Dusty Classic winners to receive the titles, but for some unknown reason WWE rushed the Women’s Dusty Classic and had it take place at the same time the Men’s Dusty Classic.

On the heels of last week’s controversial WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match, NXT General Manager William Regal unveiled NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles and crowned Dakota Kai & Raquel González as the first-ever champions. Kai & González were almost immediately visited by their first challengers, Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon, and Regal made the first defense of the titles official for later in the evening…

WWE promised NXT General Manager William Regal would make a pair of game-changing announcements on the Mar. 10 edition of the show, and they didn’t waste any time getting to them.
The rumor mill beat Regal to the punch, but that didn’t take any of the gusto out of the presentation.
A video package announced that the pre-WrestleMania 37 TakeOver event will be a two-night affair called Stand & Deliver!

And when Raquel González & Dakota Kai head into those shows on April 7 & 8, they’ll do so wearing these brand new belts.
