JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Department of Social Services’ Financial Assistance Unit is being restructured.
The Board of Supervisors’ Human Services Committee recently authorized a plan for the restructuring after hearing from DSS Commissioner Anne Solar at the County Office Building. The full board will study the proposed plan Monday.
Solar said DSS recently had two resignations at its Cooper Building on Daisy Lane, and is now looking at the “bigger picture.”

JOHNSTOWN Fulton County legislators recently voted to accept $211,043 in state funding for the county’s Community Services Department.
The state has been flush with cash recently, giving back funding it previously took from counties. The situation was again reported at the Fulton County Board of Supervisors’ Human Services Committee session at the County Office Building.
Community Services Director Ernest Gagnon requested the panel approve a proposed resolution to amend the 2021 county budget and accept additional mental health funds withheld by New York state.
The committee approved the resolution, which goes before the full board Monday.
He said the $211,043 in funding from the state Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, state Office of Mental Health, and state Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities must be expended by the end of 2021.

JOHNSTOWN Fulton County supervisors on Monday authorized acceptance of state Code Blue funds to assist the homeless through the county Department of Social Services.
The Board of Supervisors passed a resolution at the County Office Building to accept $3,900 in state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance funding.
DSS Commissioner Anne Solar had recommended an agreement for acceptance of the 2021 Code Blue funds from the OTDA to offset the costs of housing and transportation provided by DSS to homeless individuals not eligible for DSS standard housing programs.
Board Chairman Jack Callery will be signing the agreement, which is subject to approval by County Attorney Jason Brott.
