COVID-19 hospital cases down 10 per cent in Hertfordshire

Trends in hospital cases typically trail weeks behind infection rates, as the virus takes time to incubate, cause symptoms and then become severe enough to require hospital treatment. As such, by the time the county’s infection rate had begun to fall in early January, hospital cases were still increasing. On January 5, there had been 561 coronavirus patients in beds across four Herts NHS trusts: East and North Herts; West Herts; Herts Community; and Herts Partnership. By January 12, it had risen by almost 8 per cent, to 604. But two weeks later, on January 26, it had dropped back down to 540 – a 10.6 per cent decline.

West Hertfordshire hospitals record more than 100 Covid deaths for January

Updated The latest NHS England coronavirus figures reveal more than 200 lives have been lost in December and January at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust More than 100 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded at a hospital trust for the second month in a row. And a record-breaking 60 new deaths were reported at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust by NHS England today alone, taking the coronavirus death toll at the trust to 724 since the pandemic began. Not all of the 60 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours, with some deaths taking longer to be registered and then reported by the NHS. However, all of the 60 deaths reported today occured in January, except one on December 17, and takes the total number of deaths of patients, who died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid, in December to 107 and 168 in January, amid a time when the trust has been looking after a record number of Covid patients.
