West Frankfort mourns loss of city commissioner West Frankfort Mayor Tom Jordan released a statement on the passing of Finance Commissioner, Mike Simpson. “Our community is heartbroken by the passing of my longtime friend, Mike Simpson. Mike passed away Wednesday evening after a hard fought battle with cancer. Mike was more than our Finance Commissioner, he was a resource of knowledge and experience. My heart goes out to his wife, Marilyn, his daughters and their family, and to the countless friends that loved Mike.
