To the editor: To you and the Enterprise staff involved in the editorial to stay home thank you for having the courage to write the truth and make all of us in journalism look good. I own two weekly papers along Route 20 Waterville Times and West Winfield Star. We have lost subscribers over our strong stance to follow the rules to stop the spread. We have also lost subscribers to the coronavirus. It’s time this gets under control. It is not an easy time, for many reasons, to run a small newspaper. But we do our best, and your editorial was spot-on.

Fly Creek Cider Mill near Cooperstown NY closes

Times Telegram A small but steady flow of customers wound their way through the mill store at the Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard on Sunday, the mill’s final day of operation. While many shelves and displays were empty, cider and doughnuts were available along with apple wine, barbecue sauce, fudge and various other items, all at 65% off. Whether the mill will reopen at some point remains to be decided. “We’re going to take some time and reassess what we’re going to do,” said to Bill Michaels, who owns the mill with his wife, Brenda, and was on hand for the final day. “We’ll announce (the decision) through our customer portal and on social media.”

Farmers Market in Hamilton, NY offers fresh local products all winter

Parry’s General Store in Hamilton offers some of the sunshine of the summertime with their Indoor Winter Farmers Market, running the first and third Saturday of each month straight though until spring. “I really like that they do this,” complimented Lori Collins, who visited the market Jan. 23 with husband Marty. “I really miss this kind of stuff during the winter.” The Jan. 23 market featured the winter produce, eggs, greens and apple of Stone Brothers Farm and Greenhouses of Canastota; goat cheeses and local meat from Poplar Hedge Farm and Creamery in West Winfield; maple products from Schmidt’s Scattered Maples of Sherburne; and traditional style Pennsylvania Dutch farmhouse gouda cheeses and baked goods from Jake’s Gouda of Deansboro.

Hunger Coalition aids Operation Sunshine, local food pantries Times Telegram Times Telegram The Herkimer County Hunger Coalition has been working to make sure local families have food on their tables, clothing for children and presents under their Christmas tree. The Hunger Coalition is donating $2,000 to Operation Sunshine (Herkimer County) in honor of Kathy Orts at Herkimer Elementary School. For years, Orts has coordinated a program with Operation Sunshine, guaranteeing deserving students a meaningful Christmas. “We’re grateful to our many and generous donors for providing the capital enabling us to support this most worthy cause,” said coalition founder Ray Lenarcic. He said the coalition has also made $1,000 donations to the Food Bank of Central New York accounts of food pantries in Richfield Springs, West Winfield and Old Forge. Similar donations were made earlier to the accounts of food pantries in Little Falls, Kuyahoora Valley, Frankfort-Ilion, Herkimer, Dolgevil
