Spindly trees, luminescent skies, silhouettes, reflections and stars. This is the stuff of Victoria Crowe’s first series of new work at the Scottish Gallery following the major retrospective which was held in 2019 – the time before these times – over five months at Edinburgh’s City Art Centre. The works are deeply evocative, thickly wooded, intensely human yet only faintly suggesting a human presence, from the warmth of lights in a cottage window in the deep blues of a night-time forest to the sudden reflected self-portrait in a garden view through a window. Rather magically, too, next to these 12 works, hung sparsely in the gallery and accompanied by a display case of Crowe’s sketchbooks, are 12 evocative poems, each inspired by one of the paintings.
Covid testing.
Universal lateral flow device (LFD) Covid-19 testing is available for everyone in Scotland and home test kits are available to anyone who does not have Covid-19 symptoms and can be ordered for delivery to your home online or by calling 119.
Alternatively, home test kits can picked up from the local walk-through test site at Langlee Community Centre, in Marigold Drive, Galashiels, between 3.30pm and 8pm.
Also, the community testing programme continues to be delivered across the region through partnership working between NHS Borders, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Borders Council and Scottish Government.
Community testing is being offered at local fire stations (and the Volunteer Hall in Duns) in the following towns over the next few weeks.
