COVID-19 concerns return amid NBA Finals

Originally posted on Hoops Rumors  |  By Arthur Hill  |  Last updated 7/17/21 An NBA season that began under the threat of COVID-19 appears to be ending the same way. In addition to Thanasis Antetokounmpo, who has been ruled out of Saturday night’s Game 5 after being placed in health and safety protocols, the Bucks will be without assistant coach Josh Oppenheimer, tweets Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. This will be the third straight game that Oppenheimer has been forced to miss, Wojnarowski adds (Twitter link), but there’s hope he might be back for Game 6 (Twitter link). The virus has also affected Saturday night s officiating crew, as the league announced (via Twitter) that referee Sean Wright has been placed in health and safety protocols. James Williams will take his place.

Chris Paul playing through wrist and finger issues

Chris Paul playing through wrist and finger issues Share this story Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images He has not been listed on any injury reports since being cleared of COVID-19 in the Western Conference Finals, but Suns guard Chris Paul embodies every middle-aged person in that he seemingly deals with some random new pain on a daily basis. In Game 4 of the Finals, not only was Paul’s right index finger taped but also his left wrist. He’s committed 15 turnovers in the last three games alone, 17 total in 4 Finals games, and has only a 2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio in the Finals.

NBA: Wizards offer Wes Unseld, Jr head coach job

Photo by Rocky Widner/NBAE via Getty Images The Washington Wizards finally appear to have their new head coach. On Friday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Denver Nuggets assistant coach Wes Unseld, Jr. was offered the position and final contract details will be done soon. It will be a homecoming for Unseld, because he was an assistant coach for the Wizards from 2005-11 and a scout before then. A deal will tie together a remarkable homecoming: Unseld’s late father, Wes Unseld, is the most important figure in franchise history a Hall of Fame player, coach and executive with Washington. https://t.co/grv6BRHPvp Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) July 16, 2021
