Papua New Guinea has recorded 504 new Covid-19 cases, increasing the total number of cases to 13,000.
Of the 504 cases recorded, the ages range from just two years old to 86, acording to the office of PNG’s Pandemic Response Controller.
The cases were reported in 19 provinces with East New Britain reporting the highest of 249 cases.
It’s understood many of the 504 cases relate to tests done weeks ago, with delays still being experienced in the reporting of Covid-19 infections from various provinces in PNG.
Concerns hundreds of COVID-19 cases missing from PNG s national tally By PNG correspondent Natalie Whiting in Port Moresby
Nestled in Papua New Guinea s remote highlands region, the Mount Hagen Hospital has about 250 beds and services about half a million people.
As a result, the hospital usually functions at or above capacity, and that s outside of a pandemic.
So, when COVID-19 cases began to surge this year, the hospital was put under even more strain. It escalated further when staff themselves soon became infected. We ve had about 110 staff who have been infected, or are currently, with COVID. And yes, when you have a limited pool, that does mean that you need to redirect services, manager of the Mt Hagen Hospital and acting chief executive of the Provincial Health Authority, Jane Holden, said.
The Fokker 100: An Important Niche Regional Jet
3 minute read
It is now over 33 years since the first deliveries of the Fokker 100 were made. Despite the age of the aircraft, it remains an important regional jet – just in an increasingly niche way. In normal scheduled operations, it has just 1% of commercial RJ flights this year.

The continuing use of the Fokker 100, which normally has roughly 100 seats, is seemingly aided by being strong and sturdy while being relatively low-cost. This is especially regarding low acquisition costs in comparison to modern and more fuel-efficient RJs. This means they have low fixed costs, which makes them especially good for low use – just like Allegiant and its then MD-80s.

Trouble brewing for British cuppa as climate change threatens tea production
Tea-growing countries such as Kenya face more erratic rainfall and rising temperatures, a report from Christian Aid warns.
Climate change is putting the much-loved British cuppa at risk as extreme weather and rising temperatures hit tea-growing countries, a report warns.
The UK and Ireland drink more tea per person than any other countries in the world, with Kenya alone producing half the black tea drunk in the UK.
But a report from Christian Aid warns that Kenya, the world’s biggest exporter of black tea, faces more erratic rainfall, making floods and droughts more common, and rising temperatures.
