(WWSB) - A cyber attack on a gasoline pipeline that supplies the southeastern U.S. should not affect Florida, the AAA reports. The Colonial Pipeline is the nation’s largest pipeline for refined products like gasoline. The Colonial Pipeline carries gasoline and diesel from refineries in Texas, supplying states with fuel across the southeastern U.S. and up the Eastern Seaboard to New York. Florida is not largely dependent on the pipeline for gasoline. Most of Florida’s fuel is delivered from Gulf Coast refineries via tanker ships. Because of this, Florida should remain well supplied with gasoline, despite the pipeline outage, the AAA said Monday.

Gasoline prices across Florida falling, dropping 8 cents

Gas prices across Florida have continued their decline, dropping 8 cents in the last month, to the lowest daily average in two months. The average price per gallon on Monday was $2.78, according to the AAA-Auto Club South in its weekly state briefing. However, summer demand and crude oil prices could have impacts as Americans begin to look toward traveling more. Gas prices have mostly declined for six consecutive weeks, as refinery activity recovered from power outages earlier this year, said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins in his weekly briefing. That downward trend is now in jeopardy. Crude and gasoline futures prices rebounded last week, after positive U.S. economic data increased market optimism about summer demand.
