Two to face trial in shooting | News, Sports, Jobs

Julie Rae Rickard CLEARFIELD Two men will stand trial for the attempted robbery and shooting of a Clearfield County man who recently won a large sum of money from a lottery machine. Police said Richard Allen Demko, 26, of Northern Cambria and Anthony D. Guy, 48, of West Decatur, “rushed” the 49-year-old victim at his Clearfield address after he arrived home on the night of Jan. 16. According to the affidavit of probable cause, when police arrived at the home, the victim was lying inside the residence on the floor with a wound to his left leg that was bleeding profusely. One of the officers applied a tourniquet on the upper part of the leg in an effort to stop the bleeding.

Sayers says that on Saturday, around 9 p.m., police were dispatched to a home along South Second Street for a reported shooting. Investigators say 26-year-old Richard Demko, of Northern Cambria, and 48-year-old Anthony Guy, of West Decatur, allegedly approached a 49-year-old man at his home and demanded money. Free Christmas Eve dinner continues demonstrating the kindness of the community

COVID-19 canceled many Clearfield County events this year but one found a way to continue helping others by providing free hot meals and gifts for those who otherwise might go without. The 25th annual free Christmas Eve dinner was held Thursday. Because of the pandemic no meals could be eaten in — all had to be picked up or delivered. Those restrictions, however, did not alter the spirit of the event. Event committee Chairman Steve Livergood told The Progress in an interview Thursday the group planned to serve approximately 1,000 meals — 250 more than it distributed in 2019 because it believed more people than ever would be in need. The all-volunteer humanitarian effort, financed through generous donations of both food and finances, also distributed gifts to more than 90 less-fortunate children and provided baskets of food and presents for a number of disadvantaged families.
